A public responsibility created by a dark past

The people of Summerhill have deep experience with broken promises and have watched private organizations use public land while returning little to the community. The sole purpose of Our Cheney is to stop that from happening again.

By community, we mean everyone. This is a historic, first-of-its-kind facility for Atlanta and Georgia. It will be the one and only facility of its kind available for our student-athletes to use. That use is in conflict with ATC’s desire to host NCAA National Championships, conference events, and other national-level competitions. Our Cheney wants to ensure that our children have access to this facility.

Local residents bear the brunt of the impact. We are happy to do so to provide opportunities to our neighbors. The balance that we are asking for is that our local community is served as well. We do not want our children’s soccer field to become a parking lot. We want to continue to have athletic fields and green space for everyone to enjoy.

There is enough land here to make it work. The Atlanta Track Club has been a welcome member of the community for a decade. They hold events for our kids, teach them to run track, and run cross-country meets for our schools. We look forward to working with them to deliver this exciting project.
