Why this information matters
Atlanta Track Club has described APS events, youth competitions, high-school invitationals, collegiate conference meets, and NCAA championship events, each with different attendance, operating hours, traffic, parking, staffing, noise, and impacts on ordinary APS and community use. A proposed annual calendar is the clearest way for APS, nearby residents, and the public to understand the likely scale of operations.
The existing park is also used for youth soccer, flag football, cross-country meets, and other youth athletics. It is unlikely that many of these activities could be held at the same time as major indoor-track events, making it important for the calendar to show how use of the indoor track, outdoor track, and athletic fields would overlap.
Comparable indoor facilities
Atlanta Track Club also identifies New York’s Armory as a model for Cheney. The Armory reports hosting more than 100 track-and-field competitions annually, with more than 180,000 athlete visits during a season.
The Birmingham CrossPlex provides a useful regional comparison. Its published schedule listed 32 track events between December 5, 2025, and January 31, 2026, before the later collegiate conference and NCAA championship period.
